OpenHSM

Project Status

Background

OpenTMS was originally developed (as REELlibrarian) by Sceptre Corporation, which was acquired by StorageTek. The objective was to provide a full function, distributed tape management system (TMS) for open systems. The software is hardened from more than a decade of deployment in enterprise environments.

Current Status

OpenTMS version 1.0 RPMs are available now for Linux 2.4 and 2.6 enrironments. The source code has not been released in its entirety yet, pending replacement of certain modules that we were unable to release under GPL. One such module is the volume database; work is currently underway to replace it with SleepyCat.

Open Issues

  • For historical reasons the build environment for the OpenTMS software differs from common open source practices. Efforts are underway to bring it more in line with current practices.
  • The software is currently not 64 bit safe; Sizing is underway to resolve this.
